The Civil Human Rights Front’s response to Carrie Lam’s policy address announcement

「The best policy is to respond to the five major demands or not having you to govern Hong Kong”

Today, Carrie Lam arrived at the Legislative Council to announce and read her third policy address in person. We believe that it is highly unrealistic for her to quell public grievances towards police brutality by only pushing out minor repairs to society within her policy address. Hong Kong people have been subjected to numerous crackdowns and repression from the Hong Kong government “fighting fire with kerosene” using the unjust Emergency law. This has made us even more certain that the best policy address would be to have Carrie Lam respond directly to the five major demands and to step down as the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR.

According to public polls, Carrie Lam’s popularity has reached one of its lowest points during her legislature, with forecasts that it will drop below the current 20 points that she currently holds. With 70% of the Hong Kong public requesting her to step down, it reflects that most people have lost trust in the current government run by her. It is shameless and disgusting for Carrie Lam to step into the Legislative Council chambers today, confidently thinking that she could still lead and represent Hong Kong as Chief Executive by reading her policy address to the people.

Carrie Lam has taken advantage of administrative hegemony to continuously incite and ignite public anger again and again during such strained times within society. We urge Carrie Lam to stop destroying Hong Kong, respond to the five major demands, and step down. The blood of Hong Kong’s citizens are on her hands.

Abolish the unjust and evil law, conduct independent investigations, and reorganize the police force!
October 20! We will take to the streets! See you in Tsim Sha Tsui!
